Halloween Crypt 2014: A London Horror-Style Teaser

Our Halloween Crypt 2014 teaser turns a visit beneath St Martin-in-the-Fields into a miniature horror trailer. Published on 23 October 2014, the film offered a first glimpse of the setting before our full Crypt film arrived on Halloween. In just over a minute, it moves from the church at night to a glass lift, brick vaults and memorial stones.

This is a playful piece of Halloween filmmaking. The dramatic title cards create suspense around an ordinary journey into the Crypt; their language belongs to the trailer’s spooky presentation.

Halloween Crypt 2014: the church after dark

The first location shots show St Martin-in-the-Fields at night. Its lit columns and the dark street provide a striking opening. Between those views, distressed title cards build the promise of something hidden below Trafalgar Square.

Next, the camera approaches the illuminated Crypt entrance. The glass structure makes a bright focal point beside the church. It also gives the teaser a clear direction: away from the street and down into the building.

A close view of the Crypt sign confirms where we are. The film cuts between this recognisable entrance and its ominous text, giving a familiar London stop a different mood for Halloween.

Taking the lift underground

The glass lift becomes the centre of the next sequence. Reflections, metal rails and cool lighting give the descent its atmosphere. Meanwhile, the title cards invite viewers to watch the full visit and discover what lies within.

Then a close shot of the illuminated minus-one button makes the journey below street level explicit. It is a small everyday detail, but the trailer uses it to carry the suspense forward.

Brick vaults and the final reveal

Once underground, the camera catches the brick vaulted ceiling. Warm lights pick out the arches before the view drops to inscribed memorial stones underfoot. These brief interior shots supply the teaser’s final setting.

The closing cards announced the full film for Halloween 2014. A fleeting coffee-cup shot at the very end hints at the café visit behind the dramatic trailer. You can now follow that visit in our Café in the Crypt 2014 article.
