A Borough Market breakfast can be a simple affair: a black Americano, a freshly baked breadstick and a walk through the stalls. On this Saturday visit, I arrived at London Bridge with another event to film later in the day. There was time for two familiar stops before heading across town.

A Saturday morning at Borough Market
I already knew what I wanted when I arrived. Coffee came first, followed by something savoury from Bread Ahead. Even with a short shopping list, however, the route through Borough Market offered plenty to look at.
The film moves between the covered aisles and the surrounding streets. Green-painted ironwork stretches above the stalls, while the railway arches frame the entrances and passages. Outside, sunlight catches the market sign and the buildings around it. Inside, the pace changes as shoppers stop at counters and work their way through the crowd.
It was still early enough for a quick breakfast. In the opening narration, I noted that the market would become much busier towards lunchtime. The later shots show why a little extra time helps: a short walk can easily turn into several pauses to look at food.
Monmouth Coffee for a black Americano
My first stop was Monmouth, on the corner of the market. The queue was manageable when I arrived, although it had started to grow by the time I stepped outside with my coffee.
I chose a black Americano. The film follows that small ritual from the approach to the shop to the first drink outside. There is no elaborate tasting exercise here: it is a favourite coffee stop at the beginning of a working day in London.
The surrounding street is part of the pleasure. People gather near the market entrance, shoppers cross between the stalls and the pavement, and the queue becomes another small piece of the Saturday scene. Coffee in hand, I headed back into the market to find breakfast.
Bread Ahead and a savoury breadstick
Bread Ahead was the second stop. In the film, I describe the bakery and bakery school on the other side of the market, then head towards its stall to see the morning's selection.
The close views of the counter show stacks of golden baked goods, including the breadsticks that became my breakfast. The piles of savoury bread made choosing something small surprisingly difficult.
I bought a breadstick, something I had enjoyed before, and ate it beneath the market roof. Its exact recipe is not identified in the narration, so this archive records the choice without guessing its ingredients. The verdict at the time was enthusiastic, and the combination with a black coffee suited a quick visit before another filming job.
A walk through the food stalls
With breakfast sorted, the film continues around the market. Cheese counters, covered walkways and crowded passages give a broader impression of the place beyond the two purchases.
This is a useful distinction for anyone following the route: Monmouth and Bread Ahead were my stops that morning, while the other counters appear as part of the walk. The film does not contain a tasting or review of everything shown.
There is also time for a small piece of Roberts London promotion at a chalk wall. Then the walk returns to the arches and street entrances. One shot catches the old Lee Brothers potato merchants sign, a reminder of the working market history visible above the contemporary stalls.
Two stops before the rest of the day
By the end of the visit, I was ready to head to the event I had come into London to film. The breakfast had been deliberately straightforward: Monmouth coffee, a Bread Ahead breadstick and a little time to enjoy the market around them.
The 2019 film preserves that particular morning rather than a ranked guide to every breakfast available at Borough Market. It is a short route built around two personal favourites, with the market's architecture, counters and passing crowds given room alongside the food.
